Helpful Makeup Tips for Acne Sufferers

Acne is a very upsetting skin condition especially for teenagers. Pimples and cystic acne take some time to heal and disappear that some apply makeup to hide this ugly imperfection. Some people often make a mistake of putting too much makeup on their acne in the notion that they can conceal it. But the truth is makeup can further inflame acne if not applied properly. Thick makeup application is definitely a no-no. For acne sufferers, applying makeup should be of the “less is more” kind. The right kinds of cosmetics help in achieving clear skin too. Non-comedogenic, mineral and oil-free makeup should be the only type that is used.

Makeup Tips for AcneBefore starting makeup application, make sure that the face is properly cleansed and toned. If you are using any acne medications, apply them. Afterwards, a light, oil-free moisturizer should be applied on the face. No matter how oily the skin is, moisturizers must never be skipped. When the skin lacks moisture, it produces even more oil to compensate.

After moisturizing the skin, foundation will be applied next. Only a light layer should be applied all over the face and neck. Blend it well but not roughly. Foundations help even out the skin tone and primarily hide small imperfections. This also helps the skin appear oily.

The concealer is the next step after foundation application. Concealers are great in hiding imperfections especially acne and scars. Cover red and dark areas of the face with it. Make sure to dab and not rub the concealer onto your skin. Blend the concealer well so that the starting and ending point of your application will not be visible. You can apply as much concealer as you want but never layer it on too thickly. Caking can occur when it dries. This invisibility makeup is also great in reducing dark under eye circles. As usual, dab it on and blend. With concealers, the pinkie finger works just as well as a disposable sponge. For a lasting makeup effect, take a large blush brush and apply loose powder into your face. This will seal in your makeup and make it last longer. Dispose of any sponges and wipes to avoid getting oil into your clean face the next day.

Remember that makeup only hides acne and will not reduce or cure it. As soon as your day ends, remove all traces of it thoroughly with oil-free, hypoallergenic remover or with soap and cold water. Aside from this, avoid picking at your acne and touching your face too. Hands are bacteria laden and are sometimes the cause of appearing acne.
